Senior Strings
Congratulations to our Senior String students who played in the 'Tutti Strings' Orchestra at the Eisteddfod today. (TUTTI means ALL in musical terms).
They performed extremely well and gained a very respectable SILVER award. The students stood out in their bright gold and blue Coolum music shirts, and people from other schools remarked on how nice they looked. The adjudicator wrote some very positive comments, making specific reference to our brilliant young pianist Ben (6P). It was a really positive experience for all involved. (Lesley Pearson - Senior Strings Teacher).
Junior Speech and Drama
Last week, approximately 40 Coolum State School students from Years 3 to 6, performed in the Sunshine Coast Junior Speech and Drama Eisteddfod at Buderim. They competed against Drama students from all over the Sunshine Coast and for many it was their first real performance experience. They portrayed such a wonderful variety of characters from The Artful Dodger, to Red Riding Hood. The adjudicator, Mrs Susan Neale, was very impressed with the high standard of talent overall.
It was a very successful competition. Our youngest competitor, Lily in  3A, came first in poetry recital. Congratulations also to Mrs Stefanovic and her class, who participated in the Group Verse speaking on Thursday. Although they did not place, they represented the school beautifully. A 2nd was awarded to Moses (6A) & Ollie (6A) for their performance as Oliver and The Artful Dodger. Ayana (5P) & Aiyana (5P) received a Very Highly Commended as Alice and the Cheshire Cat. Eliza (5H) placed 3rd for the Original Character Recital, with a script, she had created herself, with the able assistance of Mrs Warren.
Thank you, also to Mrs Johanson for assisting with our poetry students and to our parents, who had to provide transport and gave moral support.
Congratulations once again to all of the students who participated in the Eisteddfod. Coolum State School definitely has talent! We cannot wait for next year! (Jo Nix)
3S Verse Speaking
Last Thursday, 3S represented Coolum State School at the Sunshine Coast Junior Eisteddfod. The children presented a poem and a prose piece. The adjudicators were impressed with their expressive faces. They commented that both pieces were performed fluently, the voices gelled together very well and the synchronisation of gestures was great. Well done 3S for your excellent performance.
A massive thank you to Helen and Denise in the uniform shop for organising formal uniforms for the day. The children all looked very smart. (Rita Stefanovic)
Senior Voices
Bravo, Bravo, Bravo Bravissimo!
Our award winning Senior Voices Choir has continued their winning streak at this year’s Sunshine Coast Junior Eisteddfod. With a massive score of 91/100, our Senior Voices came away with 2nd place against 11 of the region’s top Primary School Choirs, from both State and Private Schools. And with the adjudicator deliberating for some time, stating that she had a most difficult time deciding between 1st and 2nd, we can be so immensely proud of the fact that our singers are one the region’s best.  Other comments from the adjudicator mentioned our “lovely tone, and excellent vocal blend”. She also made note of our “effective and secure harmony”, “our great energy and strong discipline – well done to a great group”!
Yes, Senior Voices – WELL DONE! You have made your conductor so proud once again … and yes, even a little teary – again! Bravo J  (Roz Mackay)
