Year 3 A/T News
Wow! What a busy term. In between Sports’ Day, the Japanese visit and the Verse Speaking Eisteddfod, we’ve being studying the culture and customs of many of the people who have immigrated so that they can live in Australia.
Last week the ESL students from the English as a Second Language Unit at Nambour State High School came to visit and share some of their culture with us. We saw beautiful Thai dancing and played an interesting Thai game called Mu.
We also made Chinese lanterns and Chinese happy cards, Japanese origami swans and did some great Samoan and Filipino grass weaving. We finished off with a multicultural feast.
On Monday afternoon, Mr and Mrs Willems came in and taught us all about the Netherlands. It was very interesting and they cooked some delicious Dutch pancakes for us.
We might do this Unit all year. It’s delicious!!!!
Once again we are running the Bottle Stall this year for the Carnival. Please start sending in bottles filled with assorted items your child would be happy to win. Thank You.
Sports News
Congratulations to all our students who recently competed at the Sunshine Coast Regional Track and Field Championships. A number of students achieved personal bests. Particular congratulations to Gemma who has made the regional squad in the girls 10 yrs 800m with a time of 2:54:38 and will now travel to the state titles. Good luck Gemma.
Thank you to AFL Auskick for presenting a resource pack of footballs to the school in acknowledgement of the use of our ovals for their Auskick program.
Thank You from AllU Coordinator
A huge THANK YOU to all the Host Families, School Buddies, Teachers, Staff and Admin of Coolum Primary School for ensuring that our Japanese friends from Nishikata Machi Boe had another brilliant experience in Coolum this year. The weather was wonderful, as were the sunny smiles and welcome from the whole Coolum community. The students and escorts all enjoyed themselves immensely and have taken home many wonderful memories of their time with us. A special thank you to Mr Cavanagh and Sensei Wendy for their support and involvement in this important cultural exchange.
Minasan arigato.
