Information and Communication Technologies form an integral part of teaching and learning at our school. While it is a never ending challenge to keep up with such a rapidly changing area, we are proud of our current resourcing. We have:

• Fully networked campus including four buildings with wireless capability
• Computer lab with 30 networked PCs
• Computers in every classroom including LOTE, Music, Special Needs and Support
• Three SmartBoards (interactive white boards) in flexible teaching spaces available for use by all classes
• Digital video cameras
• Digital still cameras
• Digital microscopes
• Scanners, graphic tablets, webcams, microphones and data projectors

Our network runs a wide variety of tool and curriculum specific software. Teachers and students also have access to a vast number of Learning Objects - interactive computer activities designed to focus on the development of specific concepts or understandings. The Learning Objects in conjunction with the SmartBoards are powerful teaching resources.

Many classes have been involved in innovative projects, including using MovieMaker and PhotoStory3 (free Microsoft downloads), and creating animation and claymation sequences. Some students can access their Virtual Classroom from home, and several classes have participated in online chats, forum and blogs. Whatever the activity, teachers plan for the use of ICTs within the context of their unit of work and design activities to engage students and enhance learning outcomes.

Great tools may not necessarily ensure great teaching, but at Coolum State School solid teaching practice is being enhanced on a daily basis with the innovative and appropriate use of smart technologies.
