The Mathematics key learning area focuses on number, patterns and algebra, measurement, chance and data, and space.
The syllabus encourages students to develop the skills needed to think, reason and work mathematically, so that they may see connections and relationships across the areas of learning and in everyday situations.
As a result of recent initiatives in curriculum, assessment and reporting, the Year 1–9 KLA syllabuses will be re-released in 2009 to incorporate the most up-to-date advice for developing school-based curriculum. The re-released KLA syllabuses will incorporate the Essential Learnings and Standards — developed as part of the Queensland Government’s Smart Learning initiative — and the Australian Government’s national Statements of Learning in a single document. This will position Queensland teachers well for the future.
