Coolum Provisional School No. 1571 was opened on 2 April 1917 by Mr J. D. Story, the then Under Secretary of Education. His family had been early selectors in the area. The school opened with eleven students under the care of teacher Miss Ellen M. Chapman. By the end of that year the enrolment had risen to 18. The original school was housed in the School of Arts building, built by volunteer labour near the intersection of Toolga Street and South Coolum Road. The school has been on its current site for 51 years. The school has been providing public education to the Coolum community for 90 years.
